Corrections Policy

Last updated: 1 Jul 2026

TPL News aims to correct material errors promptly, transparently and proportionately.

This policy explains how readers can report an error and how corrections are handled.

What We Correct

We will consider corrections involving:

  • Incorrect names
  • Incorrect dates
  • Inaccurate figures
  • Misquoted statements
  • Broken or misleading source attribution
  • Material omissions that make an article misleading
  • Incorrect descriptions of policies, events or organisations
  • Images or captions that misidentify their subject

A disagreement with an author’s clearly identified opinion does not by itself establish a factual error.

How to Request a Correction

Email info(at)thepoleslive.com with:

  • The article title
  • The page address
  • The publication date, where known
  • The passage you believe is wrong
  • A clear explanation
  • Supporting evidence from a reliable source

Requests containing abuse, threats or irrelevant promotional material may not receive a response.

How We Review Requests

We may:

  • Check the original sources
  • Contact the author or editor
  • Review documents supplied by the requester
  • Seek additional evidence
  • Contact the person or organisation concerned
  • Consult an appropriately qualified specialist

We do not guarantee that every requested change will be made.

Types of Changes

Minor edits

Spelling, punctuation, formatting, broken links and minor clarity issues may be corrected without a formal notice when the meaning has not changed.

Material corrections

When an error affects the reader’s understanding, we will normally amend the article and add a correction note explaining what changed.

Updates

An update adds new information that became available after publication. An update is not necessarily a correction.

Where appropriate, an article may include an “Updated” note explaining the new information.

Retractions

An article may be withdrawn when its central claims are unreliable, unlawful or incapable of adequate correction.

Where practical, the original page may remain available with a retraction notice so readers understand what happened.

Clarifications

A clarification may be added when the original wording was factually defensible but could reasonably create a misleading impression.

Correction Notices

A material correction notice should normally state:

  • What was wrong
  • What the correct information is
  • When the article was amended

We will not normally repeat defamatory, dangerous or highly sensitive false information unnecessarily.

Headlines and Social Posts

When an error appeared in a headline, image caption or social-media post, we will consider whether correcting the article alone is sufficient.

Where the inaccurate material was distributed prominently, an additional correction may be published through the same channel.

Requests to Remove Accurate Content

We do not normally remove accurate published information merely because it has become inconvenient or undesirable to an individual or organisation.

Removal may be considered where there are compelling legal, privacy, safety or humanitarian reasons.
